The world s first Public Domain SID 6581/8580 replica chip available on the market.
The "Public Domain SID" (PDsid) is a new compact, robust, and highly affordable SID chip that offers several advantages over the original and also expensive replica SIDs.
The "STUDIO" version is the logical continuation of the very popular "PDsid" and offers the same fascinating baseline sound of the standard PDsid chip.

Both versions will continue to be developed in the future. Although the new "STUDIO" version now uses a DAC instead of PWM, this has less to do with "better sound" and more with the new mixing possibilities. The standard PDsid chip with PWM is already optimized to the point where a difference to the DAC version is barely noticeable.
So, what is the advantage? Future-proofing. Adapter boards that offer new capabilities will be available shortly. Until then, the PDsid "STUDIO" can deliver its outstanding sound inside a standard Commodore 64 computer.
The PDsid replica is delivered fully soldered and ready for immediate plug & play use.
Availability Note: "To ensure the high quality of this Public Domain project, the source code and hardware designs are currently being prepared and finalized for release. Full access to the data will be made available to the public (and thus to all customers) free of charge in the course of 2027 (as usual on the wiki page). The hardware itself is, of course, already fully functional and ready for use."
